4 Things to Know Before Going to the Del Mar Racetrack
Grab your dresses, best suits and craziest hats and head to the Del Mar Racetrack. The track is open now to September 2, 2019. Gates open at 11:30 AM and first post are at 2:00 PM. Here are 4 things to know before you go to the Del Mar racetrack.
Your Outfit
If you’re planning on viewing the races from the Turf Club, you are required to adhere to a certain dress code. For ladies, suits or daytime dresses are preferred. Slacks and tailored denim may be worn with tailored jackets. Men must wear a suit or sports jacket at all times. Sport shirts and tailored denim may be worn with a sports jacket. No shorts, t-shirts, athletic wear, wind-breakers, flip flops, abbreviated clothing and ripped, torn or oversized denim. If you’re sitting in the stands, you’ll most likely see people still dressed up for just for fun and to take photos.
Del Mar Race Track Schedule 2019
Make sure to check the calendar for other events happening throughout the week. Some big events happening in August are the Tacos & Beer Festival, Food Truck Festival, concerts, and the Turf & Surf BBQ Championship.
Tickets/Parking
$6 for general admission. For reserved, box or trackside dining seats, prices vary from $5-$15. Parking is $10 per vehicle. If you end up having to park far away you can wait for the free tram to come to pick you up and take you to the entrance.
The Horses
You are most likely going to the races in hopes to win some money. I used to place bets depending on the name and color of the horse. You can imagine using that tactic every time makes you lose money pretty fast. I recommend buying the $1 newspaper they hand out upon entry. You can look at what the experts say about each race and the horses.
